What is the Somalia Circular Economy Forum (SCEF)?
SCEF is a platform for building a circular, regenerative economy, one that turns resource loss across agriculture, fisheries, construction, and urban systems into green jobs and investment opportunities. Unlike a typical conference, SCEF runs as a continuous, year-round ecosystem made up of 4 integrated pillars: the Forum, the Circular Economy Lab, the Exhibition & Innovation Marketplace, and the Investment & Finance Platform.
SCEF is an initiative of Horn Thrive Hub
Who should attend SCEF?
SCEF brings together over 250 stakeholders from across Somalia’s economy,
- Government istitutions and municipalities
- Private sector companies and MSMEs
- Investors and financial institutions
- Development partners (UN Agencies and NGOs)
- Academia
- Incubators and innovators
- Civil society
If your work touches policy, enterprise, innovation, or investment in Somalia, SCEF is built for you.
What sectors and themes does SCEF focus on?
We base our investment approach on evidence and decades of market history, not guesswork about the future. Research shows market timing doesn’t work. Instead, we focus on what you can control: risk, asset allocation, costs, and taxes. Emotional decisions often hurt long-term returns, so we aim to avoid those pitfalls.
Diversification lowers risk, not just by holding many assets, but by mixing company sizes, sectors, and balancing stocks and bonds. Risk can’t be erased, but it can be managed.
We keep expenses low with cost-effective mutual funds and ETFs, since high fees can erode even a well-diversified portfolio’s gains.
Taxes matter too. While unavoidable, they can be minimized with a smart, tax-aware strategy.
How can my organisation get involved?
There are several ways to:
- Join as a strategic partner or sponsor
- Exhibit your products or innovations at the marketplace
- Apply for the Circular Economy Lab accelerator
- Connect with enterprises through the Investment Platform
Use the “Partner With Us” or “Exhibit at SCEF” buttons above to start the conversation with our team.
What happens at the Circular Economy Lab?
The Lab is a five-week accelerator for up to 30 high-potential founders. Participants move from foundational circular economy concepts through systems mapping, business model design, and prototyping, ending with investment-readiness coaching and live pitch sessions in front of real investors.
Does SCEF's impact continue after the annual event?
Yes — SCEF is designed to outlast the forum itself. Throughout the year, a Digital Knowledge Platform, Innovation Database, and Partnership Tracker keep stakeholders connected and solutions moving, while an Annual Progress Report tracks commitments, investments, and outcomes to keep momentum building year over year.
